Prolonging the life and performance of your excavator is simple when you perform an easy three-step pre-op inspection.

No matter what type of excavator you have, a pre-op inspection can help increase the longevity of your machine and reduce costly downtime and maintenance.

Why Perform a Pre-Op Inspection
MAQ PARTS recommends performing a pre-op inspection of your excavator to ensure your machine is fully operational and functions at optimal performance. Additionally, performing a pre-op inspection allows you to identify problems and malfunctions that require the attention of a trained professional.

Where to Find Pre-Op Guidelines
Refer to your machine’s Operator’s Manual for specific instructions and guidelines for conducting a pre-op inspection.

Performing Pre-Op Inspection: 3 Easy Steps
Performing a pre-op inspection of your excavator can be done by following these 3 easy steps:

Step 1: General Visual Walk Around
Begin the pre-op inspection of your excavator by visually inspecting the undercarriage, arm, and boom for any obvious defects, damages, or leaks. Next, visually inspect the bucket to ensure the teeth are fully intact and free of holes and cracks.

Continue the inspection by locating the tracks and visually inspecting the tracks for damage. Identify if tracks are missing, bent, buckling, or require a tension adjustment. Visually inspect steps and ensure sprockets are in place.

Step 2: Compartments Check
Safely open and secure the back panel of your excavator and visually inspect the cylinders to ensure there are no fluid leaks or debris.

Next, travel to the front of the machine and open up the front compartment. Begin your inspection by checking the washer fluid tank for appropriate levels of fluid. Next, verify all additional oil and fluid levels are adequate. Locate the engine compartment and verify that nothing is broken or missing. Check that the radiator cap is securely fastened.

Lastly, navigate your way to the side compartment and locate the fuel and oil filters. Ensure that each filter is free of dents and cracks. Verify that the hydraulic pump is free of dents and cracks and confirm that the hydraulic hoses are free of cuts and leaks.

Step 3: Operator’s Seat
Complete your pre-op inspection by thoroughly inspecting the operator’s cabin. Verify that the cabin is clean and free of debris. Ensure that all levers are able to move freely. Confirm that foot controls and the seatbelt are in full working order.

Lastly, turn on the engine and verify that all electrical components, including the radio and monitor, are fully operational.
Overview
Performing a pre-op inspection of your excavator is a simple and easy way to help prolong the life of your excavator and reduce unnecessary maintenance costs and machine downtime. By following the simple three-step process and referring to your Operator’s Manual, you can ensure that your machine will maintain optimal performance by performing pre-op inspections.
